Congratulations on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the International
Association of Safety and Survival Training (IASST). The associationís founding
meeting was held 25 years ago at FanŲ, Denmark, attended by progressive and ambitious
men who decided to join their efforts and skills in strengthening and increasing
education and safety among marine workers.
Much has happened since then and safety training has changed dramatically. Focusing
on the initiative that was launched 25 years ago, it is essential that the training
institutes safeguard and enhance at all times the quality and safety of safety
training under the auspices of the IASST Mission Statement. We must always emphasize
effective and constant exchange of information on anything pertaining to safety
in the maritime environment and the promotion of continuous improvement in safety
and survival training internationally.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, we are proud to open new and improved
IASSTís homepage, which I hope constitutes new beginnings in the internal communications
of the IASST members, as well as increasing the flow of information between the
members and others visiting the homepage. We will use the homepage, among other
things, to work on the Objectives of IASST and it will be our venue of cooperation
between our regular meetings for the interchange of ideas and information with
a view on improving the quality of training internationally. I strongly encourage
you to make the homepage of IASST the opening page of your browser.
