The Sea & Shore Safety Services ltd. in Dublin has since 1991 given awards
to recognise those people or organisations who have participated in any aspect
of marine safety. The annual safety awards for 2007 were presented on the Friday
9th in Royal St. George Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire.
The IASST Chairman Capt. Hilmar Snorrason Principal of the Maritime Safety and
Survival Training Centre in Reykjavik and Michael Darby, Maintenance Supervisor
at the ESB Generating Station at Moneypoint in County Clare where the receivers
of the Safety Awards 2007. Sea and Shore was set up by Michael Langran, with
his wife Susan and daughter Claire as directors in 1986. Later Capt Philip Murphy
joined the company as director. Unfortunately Philip died 3 years ago and in his
honour the safety awards is dedicated to his memory. His widow Angela Murphy and
Mayor Denis O'Callaghan presented the awards.
