On Tuesday, the 12th of July, the Chairman of the International Association for Safety and Survival Training (IASST) Henk Spanjer delivered a presentation to delegates of the European Parliament.
The request to deliver the presentation came from a group who was involved in an EU project (Erasmus +) and aimed to develop a safety related virtual reality program for the fishing industry.
Henk could deliver such a presentation thanks to his rich personal experience: he volunteers as a coxswain at the KNRM lifeboat station and is involved in the practical safety training at the Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz.
The presentation delivered by Henk was a reflection of personal experiences and the intention to improve safety training and safety awareness on board of (fishing) vessels.
